beevor-brief review of the tv show

It appeared to be a tv show in the same format as the stalingrad book (but about berlin of course).

Lots of cool (some colour) wartime footage, and interviews with people who were there, including several Russian and German veterans and civilians, who told often harrowing tales of their experiences.

Lots of stuff on the Zeelow Heights Assault too.

There was also footage of Beevor and others at digs on battlefield sites, looking for the remains of the fallen - they showed a couple of sites where they had found remains and identified them, folowed by an interview with relatives of the newly uncovered dead.

He then went on to mention why stalin was so determined to reach Berlin before the allies - and there were scenes of him examing documents in "previously unseen archives".

I was called away from tv for a short while after that so I only caught little bits after that - bu he seemed to be of the opinion that Stalin was after the germans atomic plants or something.

Just found this thread. Dave, I did record it, if you'd like me to send you a copy then I'd be glad to oblige - providing you cover postage!

Best Wishes
Si
