US 1st Armored Division in Italy (1945) - any books?
Can anyone recommed any books or (perhaps) articles regarding activities of the United States 1st Armored Division in Northern Italy in 1945?

George F. Howe, Battle History of the 1st Armored Division, "Old Ironsides" is about it.K.Kocjancic wrote: ↑17 Mar 2021, 16:41Can anyone recommed any books or (perhaps) articles regarding activities of the United States 1st Armored Division in Northern Italy in 1945?

Thanks for your reply. Do you perhaps have the book? If you have it, can you check if or how much details are there regarding surrender of German-led, Soviet-manned (and Waffen-SS) units in Northern Italy?

Here's a link for downloadable copies of
Sicily and Surrender of Italy
SALERNO TO CASSINO
CASSINO TO THE ALPS
from the Army Green Book collection. Mining the bibliography and references would be suggested.

I already had these, while the last one covers the last part of the war. Unfortunately, it covers more of a strategic overview of the events, and none of the units, that I'm interested in, aren't mentioned here. Plus, the book is quite old and I was wondering if there is something newer on this topic.
Thanks anyway!

Have you searched the Combined Arms Research Library (CARL)? The US Army's Center of Military History can be helpful as well.

Yes, I tried to search it. Majority of sources are on African or early Italian campaign, there are some on the late war campaign, but not a lot of information regarding surrendering German forces.

Hmmmm, you may want to look at divisional histories of entities working with 1st Armored at that time. Spread your net wide.

No, unfortunately I used a copy while writing For Purpose of Service Test, but it was a library book and I no longer have access to it.K.Kocjancic wrote: ↑17 Mar 2021, 17:56Thanks for your reply. IIRC, CARL does have some documentation on the surrender of German forces in Italy? I'll see if I can find them.
