About #147 from Valtoro:
Looks like a AMES type 15 with IFF on top. This British equipment was also used by US forces.

The US Army didn't use the AMES system. They used the MEW (Millimeter Early Warning) radar system with, typically, SCR 270 and SCR 268 radars for early warning.

Dear Mr. Gardner,

My information comes from Radar Magazine.
Unfortunately I don't know the issue-number, most probably the year is 1945.
An article describes the combined use of US and British radar equipment by 555th Signal Aircraft Warning Battalion of the 9th TAC.

I will send you a copy of the pages.

Best regards,
Ger

Hi all,

Does somebody know how it is possible to differenciate between the different version of Wurzburg radar? (Wurzburg A, B, C, D)
I have seen different configurations of the dipoless on the large rounded antenna...Can this be a guide for distinguish between them ? :?

Thanks in advance

Sturm,

as a little help, I can offer this:

Ausf. "B" was only a special prototyp and did not see service or wide scale production.

Extereior differenciation:
Ausf. A had a fixed, non rotating dipol DS62 (the metal bar! ->see your post #158)
Ausf. C, D had a rotating dipol Ln20242 DA62, with or without additional fixed dipol facing the target. (->see your post #159)

Ausf. A, C were mounted on Anhänger A2, no plattform here.
Ausf. D was mounted on a special "Lafette " (gun carriage) with colapsable plattform.

As far as I know, all other details are minor and are basically refering to details in the electrical components.
Details are like, but not limited to, this:
Ausf. A had only a Oszillograph OSZ62, while Ausf. C, D, D1 - D4 had an additional "Anzeigegerät" Ln20241 (ANG62).
On A OSZ62 was the sole indicator, mounted to the right of BG62. On C OSZ62 was mounted on a rig above the BG62.
In D, D1 - D4 OSZ62 (above BG62) was replaced by EAG62.

All versions could operate with or without additional antennae, such as the UKW Dipol DE62, IFF etc.

There is a nice, short overview (in German) on FuSE62/ FuMG39T here:

It seems that the type of the image 3 is the most common
