Hi guys,
Can anyone please tell me the type and purpose of the bag attached to this man's belt?
He is a Rottenführer in the 3rd Pionier Kompanie/LSSAH and the photo was taken in France in August 1942.
The second photo (of the same man) comes from Kursk 1943, when the unit had become an armoured Pionier Kompanie with SS Pz Rgt 1. This bag seems to be a little different.
Thanks for any help.
Cheers
Steve

Re: Unusual German pouch / bag in a Pionier Kompanie
It seems I may have answered my own question.
The first one seems to a NCO field bag/mapcase as seen in this photo of a militaria version.
I suspect the Gruppe or Halbgruppe commander would have such a bag?
Thanks for any more input...

And the other looks like another version of the same thing, M 35 Map case...

Good afternoon Steve,
please try another search for "kartentasche wehrmacht".

Common stuff here in Germany, still easy to find on german flea markets nowadays, often stamped on the inside with various stampings,
good luck for your further research...
