Here you'll find another good source for german armored trains:
http://www.hans-urban.org/html/panzerzuge-1.html
(...click the photo please..)
(...The source includes a review of armored trains in world war 1 and tells a lot about Wehrmacht armored trains / captured & destroyed armored trains / Panzerspähwagenzüge in world war 2...)
With friendly greetings, Sven

Here you'll find a good source on Polish Armoured Trains, some were captured by the germans in 1939:

Most interesting part is the Combat use in 1939 for each train.

The armored trains were equipped with varying types of armament and other equipment.
Please check out the sources to get an idea what different guns were mounted / how big they actually were...
I'd say recoil wasn't a problem for a train weighing hundreds of tons...

For a written source try:
Wolfgang Sawodny: German Armoured Trains in WW2 Vol I and II published by Schiffer ISBN 0 88740 198 8 and 0 88740 288 7.
These give some details of the building, equipment and use of German armoured trains as well as captured ones. They are well illustrated and have details of manning levels and armament.
