Sources numbered 6, 7 and 8 might be worth looking at?Asbjørn wrote:No, that one I'm not aware of! I have to find a copy of it, I found a description of it that mentioned "Raketenwerfer RW 300", sounds interesting!
I'll try to get hold of the test reports from Agdenes, I'll also contact Rheinmetall. Thanks for the tip about the Danish national archive, I'll put that on my list of archives to visit!

Re: Found: Raketenwasserbombenwerfer RWB 600 U
Just an assumption, as there were specific rockets made for the other types, and the WBD was the most common/normal type.Asbjørn wrote:Interesting, I guessed it was just a regular Wasserbombe with a rocket engine attached, but I didn't know the exact type of Wasserbombe. What leads you to believe they used WBDs and not any of the other types? They are very similar.

Re: Found: Raketenwasserbombenwerfer RWB 600 U
Just got this Rheinmetall drawing.
It shows a rocketpropelled Depth charge with 40-100 m range.
Unfortunately not the one we are looking for, but still interesting.
Note the date ( 4th Otcober 1946) and the russian+german text.

Excellent drawing Zünder, thanks for posting! I think this is very close to what we are looking for. The dept charge seems shorter than the usual types, any thoughts on that?

Re: Found: Raketenwasserbombenwerfer RWB 600 U
The question is, if the drawing shows original German wartime design, or is it a postwar development made under Soviet supervision in e.g. so called Berlin Institute.
The Soviets obviously captured a lot of Rheinmetall documentation and personnel of the rocket field (maybe in Berlin-Marienfelde facility?), as they carefully analyse a lot of Rheinmetall rocket designs in early postwar studies.

Re: Found: Raketenwasserbombenwerfer RWB 600 U
As far as I can tell (from the dimensions and the listed depth-setting), the depthcharge itself doesn't seem to be german WW2?
The rocket do look similar to the WBR 40, of which you (ie Zünder) posted a drawing in the wk2ammo forum, though.
I still find the designations flowing around on the topic of german depthcharges and related rocket-engines very confusing (ref the Reihnmetall-document mentioned above, the Waffen Revue article and the info from wk2ammo).
There was a pretty interesting topic on german WW2 depthcharges In the AtlantikPirat forum a while back - I seem to recall several posts with more technical info on the various WB-types. Unfortunately, that forum seem to have vanished again (for good this time..?): http://forum.atlantik-pirat.com/index.php

Re: Found: Raketenwasserbombenwerfer RWB 600 U
I suspect the depth charge is schematically drawn, as not more information is given about the depth charge itself.
As far as i know this drawing comes from a set of drawings about wartime rocketdesigns, i am allready trying to get the rest of it.
These files used to belong to the "Militärarchiv der DDR", and i suspect they are now located in The Bunderarchiv in Freiburg, anybody know more, or how to find them there ?

I just received this document (i only show a part, rest of the page is empty), from: Table of german armament equipment (aproved and experimental) giving nomenclature, code names, purpose and brief identification particulars. Part XI, Rocket Launching devices (Work centre Unterluss, 5-8-1948).
As you can see: "Schwerer Ladungswerfer des Heeres umgebaut für RWB 600", no codename although it apparently was approved.

Re: Found: Raketenwasserbombenwerfer RWB 600 U
Interesting: It seems another part of the same document I referred to in a previous post, dealing with the rocketprojectiles.Zünder wrote:I just received this document (i only show a part, rest of the page is empty), from: Table of german armament equipment (aproved and experimental)
Note: The previous doc I used was "Unt. 295/I" (rockets/projectiles), so I reckon this is "Unt. 295/II" (weapons?) or is it in fact "Unt. 295/XI" as it might seem in your picture..?
Re: Found: Raketenwasserbombenwerfer RWB 600 U
There is a manual titled "Schwerer Ladungswerfer: Geratbeschreibung und Bedienungsanleitung," dated 21.11.41. It has quite a few technical drawings and some low-resolution photos. Unfortunately, the image files are too large to post here.

@Natter: this is from Unterlüss Report No. 295, Part XI, so "Unt. 295/XI".
Which makes me curious about the other parts.

Feel free to send me a copy of that manual, I'd be happy to assist in resizing...MLW wrote:There is a manual titled "Schwerer Ladungswerfer: Geratbeschreibung und Bedienungsanleitung," dated 21.11.41. Alternatives:
Free tools for adjusting images
FastStone Photo Resizer (very easy to use, but has a bug that screws up dpi-settings)
IrfanView (the best, but a bit more "advanced")
Online-resizers (just an example - there's a lot of these)

Do not bother trying the Rheinmetall Archives. They do not have the other reports. Actually, they do not have much WW2 archival material, not even company internal reports.
