It’s an infrared camera for taking long range infrared photographs… this shot first appeared in the Paul Carell book on Russia back in the 80’s He names the unit from memory.
The Germans used this type of equipment mostly for reccon work. As such they would photograph suspect areas in infrared and then compare them to later shots in infrared. To the naked eye there is no difference but in the IR spectrum camouflage bushes and trees reflect differently after they have been cut compared to the natural living bush. All trees/bushes have a different IR spectrum, this is used today to detect illegal cannabis/tobacco crops from the air as an example.
There is a series of shots taken from the French coast using this equipment showing the flag mast and halyard at Dover castle taken by the Germans.

No information on the exact equipment other than its range was 80 kilometres and the unit is a Vermessungs – und Kartenabteluing 602.
