Could anyone please explain me where this German measuring device was used ?

In the wooden box there is a stamp:
F. WEILAND
Zeichen
und Messgeräte-Fabrik
Liebenwerda

That is a "Winkelmesser" i.e. a device that was used to measure the elevation angle of artillery pieces when checking the actual sight unit´s zero and accuracy. Usually, there was a precisely machined surface on top of the breech piece (Bodenstück) for this purpose.
