The Feldmeßkästchen 18 is a volt-ohm meter that was used to test various pieces of field telephone equipment. The Feldmeßkästchen 18 is powered by a 4.5 volt flashlight battery (Meßbatterie). It was first developed at the end of World War 1 and continued to be used by Nachrichtentruppen until the end of World War 2.

In 1939, the design of the Feldmeßkästchen 18 was changed and included a Spannugs-Regler (voltage regulator) knob. The knob allowed the meter to be zeroed as the battery became depleted, thus preserving accuracy of measurements.
