Schweres Feldfernkable spools in the field
The cable came on 250 meter spools and had locking connectors on each end.

Each connector has four lugs on it for making electrical connections of the La and Lb circuits of the two telephone lines. Opposing pairs of lugs are connected to the two lines.

One end of the cable run was terminated of an Abspannbock located at an SA automatic exchange. The other end was terminated at an Abspannbock of a switchboard station having at least one Amtszusatz or Amtsanschließer 33.

The Schweres Feldfernkable was laid either by soldiers on foot or by a vehicle. For laying on foot, the cable spools were attached to a two wheeled cart that was pulled by two soldiers.
Laying Schweres Feldfernkable by vehicle was usually done by a kettenkrad equipped with special racks for mounting cable spools. In some cases the kettenkrad would pull a cable spool trailer.
