Luftwaffe and Marine Radarsites

Post by kstdk » 24 Jan 2004 21:21

I would like to invite you all to join in a survey of German Luftwaffe and Marine Radarsites.

You are all welcome to post any questions and / or informations on subjects: Radarstellungen, radartypes, equipment - so that we can build a source of informations of this subject.

I hope that many will contribute to this discussion.

I will start with a couple of pictures from Denmark. First of the Luftwaffe radar at Blåvand ( Büffel Stellung ) It is the V-174 near to the lighthouse in Blåvandshuk.

The next picture is of a similar "Jagdleitbunker" L 487 in Søndervig.
As a difference to the other in Blåavand, which is above ground, this one is hidden in the dunes, and barely vilible. It is accesible through a entrance, of which one has to crawl in.

Next, another radarbunker in Søndervig. The Luftwaffe site was named "Ringelnatter". This is a R 622 with a Würtzburg Riese on top.

Impressive constructions Kurt!

Too bad, nothing like this was built in Norway!
However, still a few interesting places to see!
This L-480 "Unterstand für Wassermann S" located at Lista (Lister) was a part of the "Radarstellung Linde" It has a little touch of SK inside (As you see on the drawings) And an additional antenna mounting for unknown purpose is located at it`s front.

This is a R 622 with a Würtzburg Riese on top.
Sounds familiar!
Here is a R 622 at MKB Fjell, also with emplacement for WR on top!
Is this a much used configuration?

It shows in the picture what looks like steel beams radiating from the tower. Did these beams support a wooden structure which has since disappeared or another function?

Kind Regards

Hey Erik and Dan

Nice to see you in this discussion. I will just post a couple more pictures. 2 pcs. of the V-174 radarbunker in Agger near Thyborøn.

I think this also is a nice bunker, but somewhat, i think the similar bunkers in Norway are very interesting. They are maybe similar in basic construction and use - but there is always a touch of "SK" = Sonderkonstruktion to them ?? That may have to do with the geografical, and nature in Norway. The germans had to make changes to the construction due to the harsh environment in Norway - or what ??

I will try to make a little historic entry, abuout the 3 sites that i have mentioned: Büffel at Blaavand, Ringelnatter at Houvig ( Søndervig ) and this site at Agger. A little bit about the units, equipment etc. etc. - but i will come back to that in later posting.

best regards
Kurt
