Hi Guys,
What a wonderfully human thread!
Surely, copyright permitting, there is a book in this?
Cheers,
Sid.

Re: Third Reich Funny Photos
Photo from my collection. So what’s going on here? German soldiers having some workout in the field? The answer can be found on the back of the photo. Asking the experts in old German handwriting here at AHF resulted in an answer from member nichte. Her take on the text threw a revealing light on the depicted scene.
“Bei einer Divisions Übung in Königsbrück nach dem Durchqueren einen 1 1/4 m. tiefen Baches”
That translates as:
“During a divisional exercise in Königsbrück after crossing a 1 1/4 m. deep stream”
So those guys tried to cross a stream, not expecting it to be chest-deep. Now they are trying to empty their boots of water by raising their feet. To the right, one guy is wringing out a sock, while the other is pouring water from his boot. I guess next time they crossed a stream, they checked the depth first with a stick…

Re: Third Reich Funny Photos
Reminds me of an American description of a person who is especially dimwitted: "He couldn't pour piss out of a boot if the instructions were printed on the heel."
Cheers,
