Photo - Soldiers 20 April 1939

Post by Rajifelly » 29 Nov 2002 20:33

Just bought this gem and wanted to share. On back of photo is date 20.4.39
Can anyone offer any info about the soldiers themselves?

They look like NCO's in training.
They haven't seen any action yet, no medals or decorations.
They also don't look to happy, probably just got disciplined for not having proper creases in their breeches and dirty boots.

Also, just as an interesting bit of trivia, April 20th is Hitler's birthday.

They are wearing cavalry breeches and riding boots, but no spurs. The tunic is the pocketless parade type.Third from right is an oberschutze but the other two might be trade badges?I would guess they are from a specialist unit attached to cavalry, possibly signals?

They are wearing dress uniforms. Looks like they might be getting ready to go on some formal guard mount.

Does anyone know? Are these men wearing the M35 "Waffenrock" or Dress tunic of the Infantry?

These are members of the famous Hitler 50th Birthday Parade 20.4.39.
Numerous other photos exist of like groups of marchers posing.

A similar pic indicates these are in Waffenrock.
