Feldpost Nummer 18364
I have in my possession aWaffen SS diary for 1944, however I am unable to read (decipher) the former owner's name from his script. I am willing to scan the doc' if anyone would care to help.
I really would love to find out what happened to the soldier. The feldpost number is 18364, can anyone help with this?
Ps I'm new to the board.
Thanks

Re: Feldpost Nummer 18364
Dear MC,
Here the result of the field post number list
18364
(1.2.1941-11.7.1941) 1. Schwadron SS-Kavallerie-Regiment 1 Befehlshaber Südost,
dann 1. Schwadron SS-Kavallerie-Regiment 1 Reichsführer SS,
(25.1.1943-31.7.1943) 1. Schwadron SS-Kavallerie-Regiment 1 (Kavallerie-Division),
(1.8.1943-23.3.1944) 15.2.1944 1. Schwadron Kavallerie-Regiment 15 (8. SS-Division),
(24.3.1944-6.11.1944) 10.8.1944 gestrichen, wurde Fp.Nr. 22771 B.
So it´s a former member of the 8th SS-Cavalry-Division. It would be really interesting to have a look on that diary, you mentioned.
How is it possible, that this diary made it´s way to Scotland?!
Regards yours Roland

Re: Feldpost Nummer 18364
Roland, Thanks for the reply.
I worked some years ago as a volunteer helper in the "Wayside Club" in Glasgow. This was a hostel for those who were perhaps homeless or suffering from hard times. I befriended an elderly man and over a few weeks would sit with him and keep in company playing chess with him, making him some food etc. He never really did say much. However when I was leaving the club to take up permanent employment in the city, he gave me the diary and an iron cross in a small black presentation box embosed on ther outside upper lid also with the iron cross. The cross bears the date 1939 at the front and 1813 on the reverse.
I never did see the man again.
Yours MC

Re feldpost number and diary. thanks for the replies.
I attach a photo of the fron page of the diary---can anyone make out the signature?
The last entry is from Fri March 3rd 1944. There is aslo an entry in English where the diary date 1944 has been crosed out and replaced in ink by the date 19th Jan 1945 "fall of Heinsberg" I presume an allied soldier is now in possession from that date or perhaps earlier?

Re: Feldpost Nummer 18364
I would say his name was Ludwig Görtz, coming from the Gelsenkirchen area.

Dear Hans,
thank you very much for the reply. I shall now try to find out what happened to him.
Lots of people here tried to read the name and failed, so I am very much in debt to you. Again, Thanks.
