Who is this man ???
Who is this man ???
Hello all, someone left a cut out of a newspaper with the below image on it. This man looks exactly like somone I know and i've been trying to find out who he is for the longest time. I believe he has something to do with either WW1 or WW2. I asked a few experts and they ruled out the Civil War and said based on his attire the picture was taken sometime around the 1920's. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping this face is of someone recognizable. Thank you.
Re: Who is this man ???
The facial hair, neck cravat (tie), and shirt collar look much more like 1880s/1900ish IMO.... pre WW 1 at least... I'd be thinking "Civil War veteran".
Just my opinion.

Shouldn´t it be possible to identify the newspaper first? What´s on the backside? I know there are newspaper archives over there, guess it´s possible to find the correct print when you use a partial text from the backside. Then go thorugh the newspaper and see what the frontside is telling you.
Just a quick idea, if it works? It´s worth a try at least.

Re: Who is this man ???
Well originally I thought it was someone from the Civil War myself, so I posted the same thing a little while back on a Civil War forum and everyone there said it looked to be post 1900 and somewhere around the 1920's. So that brought me here. As for the newspaper, on the back side I was able to find out this:
" Looks like both articles are from early April 2009. I haven't identified the actual newspaper yet but i'm pretty certain about the timeframe. Not sure if that helps with finding your gentleman
The first article is a review of Harlen Cobin's book "Long Lost" published in very late March/early April 2009--it's the only one that works with the line "eight previous Bolitar books, but this is the first one in three years to feature the sports agent" (Long lost is #9 in the series, and was published in 2009, three years after the previous installment from 2006) http://www.goodreads.com/series/54101-myron-bolitar
The second article is an AP report about The book deal for "ladder to the moon". It's from April 3, 2009.
http://articles.latimes.com/2009/apr/03 ... -quick3.S1
The AP report would've been republished in several papers, though the Long Lost review might be exclusive to the paper the photo was cut out of. I'd look around early April, late March 2009. "
So it looks to be a NY Paper that was printed somewhere around April of 2009. I haven't been able to locate anywhere to see the papers online or in person. Any more suggestions, clues, tips or w.e are greatly appreciated. Thanks for all your help!

Re: Who is this man ???
I agree with John ... I'd say that is almost certainly a portrait of an American Civil War veteran. Countless veterans looked almost identical to this in the latter part of the 19th century ... this was a very common appearance style.
Re: Who is this man ???
May be sound crazy.
Time ago , about 6 years ago, I purchased and old photo album, now not in my hands. I sold 5 years or so. this album was from 1902, and was a similar picture in it. ( no exactly) but similar guy, and was captioned as "CIVIL WAR SURGEON"
may be this can help.

Yea I checked the civil war surgeon and got nothing myself.
Re: Who is this man ???
Perhaps it is a post 1900 photo of surgeon Reed Brockway Bontecou who died in 1907.
