Sudeten Briefstempel
Sudeten Briefstempel
I have on-piece 3Rpf Hindenburg Head stamp which has been cancelled by a Briefstempel (35mm official document authorization stamp with National Eagle) which reads Sudetenland freiheit (Sudetenland freedom) but I can't make out the authority which used it - Deutsches Pollam (?) this last is blundered so this may not be the spelling. Can anyone tell me what or who this is?
Re: Sudeten Briefstempel
It's always better when you attach a scan, so we can see it.
But I'm pretty sure Freiheit was the name of the village, now Svoboda nad Úpou.
So your stempel has text: Deutsches Postamt, Sudetenland, Freiheit.
Obviously you have the envelope, so when you turn it over, sender address should have the name of the village: Freiheit.
Re: Sudeten Briefstempel
Thank you
My piece was torn from its original mailing hence "on piece" so I do not have the whole envelope. As to not sending a scan. as this was my first inquiry, Axis History rules prevented me from including it.
Actually I have recently found another example of this sonderstempel. The word I couldn't read is "Postamt" - Post Office. The letters are in "antique style" small and very squashed and in this second example the last "t" is extremely faint missing in the original, so the English translation is "German Postoffice, Sudetenland Free."
I tried to send you scans of both but the the keyboard would not let me.
I am not familiar with this particular band of technology, I dare say I will get the hang of it sometime.
Thank you for your reply. There are many inquiries and I'm glad i found a forum which will help me. Interest in this area is very limited in my region in Australia.
Cheers

Re: Sudeten Briefstempel
Although English translation for Freiheit is freedom, in this case it's the name of the village in Sudetenland.so the English translation is "German Postoffice, Sudetenland Free."
So it's not about Sudetenland being free.
