The card states that Johann was born on April 14th 1901. After being happily married for 14 years, he would be drafted into the Wehrmacht on August 25th 1944. He would serve as a driver in a replacement battalion. About a month after being drafted, Johann was killed in action on September 27th 1944 when he was strafed by enemy planes while driving at night.

Another interesting thing about this card, his uniform is drawn/painted on in the photo. Sometimes the family wouldn’t have a photo of the soldier in uniform so they would have it drawn on over the normal clothes.

Since he was killed only a month after being drafted, they likely never got the opportunity to get a photo of him in uniform.
