Italian Black Shirt Propaganda Postcard

#1

Post by JLEES » 24 Aug 2002, 20:40

I have an Italian propaganda postcard of a black shirt with fascist flag placing a pole in a rock with the initials "SHS" on it. There is also an eagle with a victory reaf flying above the main figure. There is no writing on the rear of the card. Does anyone know what SHS would mean and have any idea when and why the card was printed? It's a sharp looking card and I'd like to place it in its historic catagory.
Thanks,
James

I think after the cross of Italia in Jugo. Is also possible before if we soppose that exsist some propagandist action pre cross in Jugo,i don't know, but cause the crown of the winner is more probable (or maybe sure) the first idea.

Italian card

#8

Post by JLEES » 25 Aug 2002, 04:38

Hello,
After reading everyone's reply it looks like the card was printed in 1941 and notes Italy's victory in Yugoslavia. The card also appears to have an Anti-Versailles referance with the S.H.S=State of Croatia and Serben on the stone. The fascist black shirt appears to be destroying it with his standard. Many thanks to everyone for the kind information about the card. Since there was no writing on the rear side it would have been impossible for me to identify its meaning.
Thanks,
James A. Lees

The Postcard Writing

Luca,
There is nothing on the back of the card. It's just a blank back and the writing on the front, below the sign, is just the artist's signature. The signature is also unreadable.

SHS is another name for Yugoslavia. It basically stands for Slovenes, Croats and Serbs. That would obviously make sense as Italy had large appetites and hatred for Yugoslavs. Just so you stop wondering. :)
