Hi,
This is a postcard from a friend of Rohm to another S A officer. Rohm has signed it but can anybody identify the other signatory Gerhard von? Any help or ideas appreciated. Many thanks
Ian

Could it be Gerhard Rossbach? If so- that makes it a VERY interesting piece indeed.

Mike,
It would be nice if it was Rossbach as you say but I'm inclined to agree with Max after studying it again. I've always thought it looked like a v for von followed by a P but it could just be an R. I think the last three letters look like 'sch'. It doesn't LOOK like there are enough letters for Rossbach although the time frame is probably right and I'm 90 % sure its an SA man and more than likely an SA leader.

I agree. It's possible that it's a junior SA officer (adjutant or similar) sending the card to a fellow officer (Krüger? possibly) in the SA Leadership Office. Röhm just sends his greetings, so it appears he's been asked to just autograph the card. I've searched for possible names (as I'm sure Ian has) but without success.
Max.

Yes Max, I have, but no luck. It may be that Gerhard was one of Roehm's boyfriends of course. That would make sense. Krueger was a good friend of Roehm's and I have about a dozen letters from Roehme to Krueger including one that refers to Hitler as a 'donkey'. Any guesses on whether or not the surname starts with a 'v' ?

Here's another one. This is the back of a postcard with a photo of Adolf on the front. At the bottom it says Starnberg 15.8.26. The postmark on the other side says Starnberg and the comment ' The newest portait' so I guess it may be 1926 vintage. I acquired this some months ago. The description stated " Signed by Heinrich Hoffman (H H ) , Emil Maurice, Dr Franz Schwarz, Lotte Bechstein and Ida Arnold.
Well the H H is obviously Himmler. Emil Maurice is OK. It does look like Ida Arnold but I don't know who she is. Schwarz isn't Schwarz but I don't recognise the signature and Lotte Bechstein could be her (Bechstein's daughter) although it doesn't seem to have the same characteristics as the signature featured here

Any ideas?

Isn't Ida Arnold the wife of Alfred Arnold (SS-Brig.)?

Hi Max,
Well I guess it could be. I wonder if Arnold was on Himmler's staff in 1926? Any ideas on the other two?

Ian,
I don't think the "HH" is Heinrich Himmler. The handwriting has no resemblance to Himmler's at all.

Hi Max,
Yes , embarassingly , I agree. Sloppy research on my part. I have some early initialled notes of Himmler's which I recalled as being similar to those on this card but when I checked them they weren't similar enough! On the other hand I'm pretty certain they are not Hoffmann's initials either. What do you think
