Forgotten Battles Küstrin Before Berlin 1945

#1

Post by PassandReviewofWW2 » 30 Nov 2017, 18:34

Hitler viewed reports of Soviet Forces at the Oder River with scorn , reportedly saying they must have irresponsibly retreated in the wrong direction.
None the less, Hitler declared Küstrin a Fortress, with no other actions were taken until late January after Soviet Tanks drove brazenly thru the streets of Kuestrin nearly making it to the Bridges across the Oder, with Berlin a Short drive from there.

This action can be simulated using Advanced Squad Leader Game system Module Beyond Valor, Map Boards 5 and Map Board 1

The 21st Panzer Division Enters B 5 from the West, spotting two possible Russian Trench Positions setup along the Road to B 1 and Building Z7, the location of Soviet Guns can only be guessed until they open fire. The Russian B 5 Setup has to be taken out come what may, the PZ VG Panther Leads the Way Crossing the Bridge moving out into the open to draw fire, the Soviet AT Gun covering that Hex Opens Fire missing the Panther DR of 11, that reveals its Location, the Guns Location is now the Target for one SPW 251 Half track with 467 Infantry Squad, enters B 5 to take out the Gun.
A second Soviet Gun Opens Fire, DR of 11 ricochets off the Halftrack. A Panzer IV J Enters B 5 to By Pass Freeze the Target. Fire From B 1 is coming from that Russian Mortar?
The Russian Guns appear setup for Concentrated Fire, with two Guns spotted , one is still to be Found.

Russian Report Turn 1; The National Socialist Motorised Corp Group has entered the B 1 Map from the North Edge using Armored Assault, to test whether we have stocked our front line Building Z7 with real or dummy counters, the facists will find our MMG among the Decoys. The MMG across the Street From Z7 in the Wood Building to the North Covers the Intersection they must cross. The MMG and 447 First line Squad FP of 8, on the IFT, DRM -1 Non Assault Movement will show them no mercy.

German Combat Report Turn 1: The 21 PZ Div Panzer Fuhrer has given last minute instructions entering B 5, before we cross into the open and the unknown, to use the Panzer Zug Style Formation of one Panzer Behind the other, for Broad Side Gun Concentration, Like the Kriegs Marine, against suspected Russian Positions. To minimize Hidden Russian Gun Fire, Panzer Fuhrer has taken the Right Turn , on the B 5 Road Running South that then curves back toward the East, across a Bridge, making another Curve West before snaking back toward the Victory Building, the Ride of Victory or Death rests with our Valiant Panzers.

Russian Combat Report: Turn 1- Turn 2
A calamity of events, on Map Board 5- Map Board 1 , shows the Risks involved for Soviet Lightly Held Bridgeheads;

Board 5: The column of German Tanks moving up the Straight in the Road, fire their Smoke Dischargers, one German Tank shifts right using the smoke screen to exit B 5 to B 1 before Soviet Guns zero in. This one action may bring down the entire B 1 Defense, B 1 Building Z7 that is surrounded, by the one German PZ IV to break thru at the cost of the 2 other PZ IV s. Senior Sergeant Murhkov sacrifice, along jwith the 45L Gun Crew at the Trenchline leaves the Panther Trench Bound,, immobilized

Board 1 situation is serious, by the end of Turn 2, National Socialist Storm Group gained entry to Building Z 7, Reports from the two 447 squads in action there are still fighting on all sides, the small German Beetle Bug Hetzer, is also reported now moving around.
Further reports of a T 34 with the words Beetle Crusher on the Turret was spotted moving onto B 1 From the S - E.,
