Re: 1917
As a combat veteran and historian I can honestly say I was floored by this movie. It was easily believable that the things in this movie happened. Probably not to two men, but they happened, I have no doubt.

I saw it a couple of days ago - it is stunning! The attention to detail in the sets is extraordinary. The technique of telling the story in real time makes it very compelling and tense. I strongly recommend seeing it.

Re: 1917
The film is a cinematic masterpiece and has already won some awards for Best Picture and Director.
From a military historical point of view the story although entertaining has a lot of plot holes. So one just has to go with the flow and enjoy the ride. Incredible detail building all the sets, ex. trench system, no mans land, French village, etc. Totally worth the price of admission.

Technically well done, cinematography was amazing ... plot reminded me of Gallipoli in terms of the race to cancel a doomed offensive.

Re: 1917
I saw this movie a few weeks ago. It is indeed stunning filmed. The characters are believable and the sets remarkably realistic for the most part. Fairly accurate and true to the period, although a few minor problems (the wearing of officers' rank on the sleeve, which ended officially in 1916, the lack of Lewis guns, the siting of the casualty clearing station at the end, above ground and in the open). A bit reminiscent of the Australian movie "Gallipoli", I'd give it a 8 or 9 out of ten.

Re: 1917
I agree the cinematography, camera point-of-view and attention to period detail are all quite compelling. However, this seemed far too thin a plot line to hang a two hour movie on and it loses steam maybe a third of the way through. My interest waned the longer it went on. Several scenes also strained credibility. One seemed straight out of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and another appeared inserted only to pad out the screenplay, a rather clunky attempt to add a token bit of "humanity" to the otherwise grim proceedings. So unfortunately this film will not make my favorites list.

Re: 1917
I disliked it. I could not believe a veteran front line soldier could be fat. The German aviator stabbing the soldier helping him is from 1940s propaganda films not WW1. The Germans were too ill disciplined for the period. I disliked all of it.
