based on the photo, I suspect a DEFA production from the 1960s, maybe also a Russian/East German joint production from the same time.
And there were very many, often still unknown, or never performed in the West...

It's an US production from the beginning of the sixties.
Leading actor: US citizen, Oscar winner (but for a different war movie)
Leading actress: German of jewish decent, left Germany in 1933, became popular in postwar Germany
