Aha..., did the Australian actor Rod Taylor have a role in the film you're looking for ? :?

If "yes", I would imagine "Katanga" from the year 1968.

"Dark of the Sun" / "Katanga": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_of_the_Sun

Nope. There are no really famous actors in this movie apart from one, better known from the James Bond movies.

A British author who wrote a controversial book about the main character also plays himself in a small role.

A truly crazy movie. Lots of violence, torture and gore. Surprised that it hasn't been elevated to cult status in the age of DVD and digital online content.

Still amazed no one has guessed this.

Clue: the guy with the gun in his mouth is a member of the clergy. He looked down upon the Queen's funeral recently from his vantage point near the roof of Westminster Abbey. How can this be?

The “someone big” has already been mentioned by Hans.
Add that to the “rise and fall of” and you’ll have the answer.

The Rise and Fall of Idi Amin (1981)

Must be more of an obscure film than I thought...

Check it out if you can find a bootleg copy online. 👍

Drat! My next guess was going to be Idi Amin's Boat. I wonder if Mojo Nixon would have written a ditty with Idi in it instead of Elvis.

Ah well....next puzzle, please Mssr Vanilla.

Aha, thanks to Herr VanillaNuns! 8O

The film was unknown to me, neither from the cinema nor from German television, but that is not a "sign of quality" at all...

Keep the riddles comming!

I take the chance for another riddle, it would be a pity if this beautiful topic slowly petered out...

A soldier in "Drillich", he looked distressed...
(A very famous photographer took the many stillshots back then, still analog photography)

Ja! "Woyzeck" (1979) https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woyzeck_(1979)

A little loved film, for me in the tradition of "Der Untertan" with Werner Peters, but these are purely German sensibilities, like almost always...

Your turn, Helmut!

The movie is possibly "Nacht fällt über Gotenhafen"?
