sudden strike 2

#1

Post by dasboot » 08 Nov 2002, 00:49

I just saw sudden strike II for sale and must say it looked interesting. I never played the first one and would like some insight to this one. Does it play like C&C, same format?

Have you ever played it. Good/Bad?

Also, G.I. combat. Same questions as above.

Thanks.

I played the first and did not like it at all. It was a turn based Close Combat to me. Maybe little better graphics.

Ops got it confused with another game.

I did not like sudden strike either though.

Combat Mission I hear is the best ever though at Gamespy I think it got a 91 or something Rank which is really rare for those guys.

I have played it as I got interested after Sudden Strike I addon sudden strike forever. Sudden strike 2 is RTS, idea is that you command assault troops (as name says), thus you command usually platoon company or battalion. There are official campaigns for Russia, Germany, GB and US (sadly no italy nor french). There are all sort of units, as infantry, tanks, planes or else. For sample, Köngistiger, Sniper, Supply truck or Flamethrower. It all sounds neat and there are quite some scenarios added as well, like imprisoning high german officer at airfield or defending down from attack. But official campaigns and scenarions lack alot of logic and have often even errors.
There are some quite nice MODs for it as well which improve game alot, as well as campaigns and scenarios.
But Sudden Strike 2 is not very realistic, it's "made for fun" (official quote),
there ain't very much tactics or strategy needed, it's more like shoot-em-up. If you have spare cash, buy it and try it, it's very different from other tactical games I have seen.
But I look forward for Blitzkrieg, game from same company, kind of sequel for me. And that should be more like it:)

Hope it was informative!
Regards

Hmm I think I was too harsh to SuddenStrike 2, so I rephrase this a bit.
Sounds and number of units (although very large variety, boats planes ballistik tanks SPG's etc) can be A LOT more larger with MODing *.sue files (quite easy as I discovered). SSNM 1.0 and RWM 6.0 modes are quite good although ssnm has couple bugs (soon comes out v.2.0 though) and one very annoying sound, + in rwm all vechiles except armored don't need crew (!) but there are about 50+% more units! And new looks, more realistic accuracy, damage and other systems + very good sounds.
So, my point is, this game has huge potential if you have patience to re-edit all *.sue files for realism and looks:) I started my own MOD recently and I can tell, this makes game 360 degrees different (better)!
