Thanks to jbaum,

I was not aware about Mr. George Gobel, very interesting to read something about him.
In 1942 Gobel married his high school sweetheart, Alice Rose Humecki. During World War II, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Forces and served as a flight instructor in AT-9 aircraft at Altus, Oklahoma, and later in B-26 Marauder bombers at Frederick, Oklahoma.

This topic is a very beautiful thing, it shows us what some people have achieved in their lives, thank you all very much!

Peter van Eyck
After finishing school and studying music for a few months, he emigrated to New York in 1931 with a group of people around Eric Charell, a director and later author of successful revues and musicals in Berlin. There he first worked as a bar pianist, also composed his own songs, was temporarily a production assistant at Irving Berlin and assistant director at the Mercury Theater with Orson Welles. He also drove as a truck driver from the east to the west coast. In 1943 he got the role of a lieutenant in the film adaptation of John Steinbeck's The Moon is Down. He met director Billy Wilder again, who gave him the role of a German lieutenant in Five Tombs to Cairo...

The model "Nazi" per se, in many international productions, very tall, blond, stone cold, unapproachable, as if carved from a piece of stone...

Peter van Eyck did not have a long lifespan, we all remember his appearance, for sure, a face not to be forgotten.

* These "Typen" were and still are a mixture of fascination and disgust, great cinema, there will never be anything like it again.

Erich von Stroheim
For some time, Stroheim worked in his father's business, a straw hat factory. His alleged military career, which he often talked about later, is unsubstantiated. Erich von Stroheim left his hometown around 1909 for reasons that were never clarified. An uncle gave him the travel money, and on November 15, 1909 he traveled from Bremerhaven to New York on the ocean liner Prinz Friedrich Wilhelm.
Sorry for mixing up veterans with actors, but sometimes all this goes hand in hand...

The German actor Hans Söhnker is very interesting in connection with Hardy Krüger in Posting # 237

The older Hardy Krüger often spoke about his fatherly friend and surrogate father Hans Söhnker, who had probably put the young Hardy Krüger on the right path.
The much younger Hardy Krüger repeatedly affirmed that Söhnker had become “the most important person” in his life in 1943 “because he had the courage to tell a student of Adolf Hitler that his demigod was a criminal. And that the war is lost". Krueger was allowed to act in the Nazi propaganda film Junge Adler; in the hall next door in Potsdam-Babelsberg he had seen Söhnker and Hans Albers shooting Great Freedom No. 7. Söhnker then became his “surrogate father” “a bit”.

Krüger spoke very often about Söhnker, if you can read between the lines, then you realize, how very important the actor Söhnker really was for the young Hardy Krüger...

But I'm getting bogged down again, sorry!
Typical problem with movie buffs, you won't find an end...
