That's sad news indeed. I really enjoyed that film, I got the 6 hour mini series version that had lots of bits that the directors cut didn't have. Loved the fact that it was German actors, talking German as I crave authenticity. I just couldn't bear to watch the dubbed English version. My favourite scene was the action in the Officers club before they set off on their voyage. I wouldn't have minded having a night out there myself. He portrayed his character very well and will always be remembered for it. RIP
Das Boot, one of the best war dramas ever, will be continued as an eight parts (1h each) miniseries produced by Bavaria Film and SKY pay TV service. The budget will be estimated 25 million Euros, the broadcast will start in 2018.
The story is set up in 1942 directly after the events of its predecessor.
