I found this clip on YouTube. It looks pretty impressive. Anyone know the English title?

I believe this clip is from a Russian miniseries titled "Liberation". It begins with the Battle of Kursk and ends with the Battle of Berlin.

Thanks! I gathered it was some sort of series after posting. I looked at a few more clips, and it looks interesting.

Here is the IMDB page for this movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0151852/ Yuri Ozerov (Director) and Yuri Bondarev (Writer) were WWII veterans themselves.

Thanks! I found a Russian DVD box on eBay, but as it is without subtitles, it isn't worth the (t)r(o)ubles...

You're welcome! It's really a pity that this classic of a WWII movie hasn't been translated into English. There's another Soviet movie, which is quite good http://www.amazon.com/FOUGHT-THEIR-MOTHERLAND-sraszalis-rodinu/dp/B000BD40ZW/ref=pd_sim_d_1, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073488/

It is not as epic as Osvobozhdenie, but it gives an idea what it was like to be in the middle of the battle. It is set in summer 1942, when the Red Army retreated to the Volga river. The director, Sergey Bondarchuk, was a WWII veteran, as well as some of the actors (Yuri Nikulin, Innokentiy Smoktunovsky). Mikhail Sholokhov, a prominent author, was a war reporter and covered the Nazi devastation along the Don river. The movie has some 'obligatory' Soviet ideology passages, but they are minor.

I got hold on TFFTM earlier this year, and have watched it. Pretty OK, but those AT rifles are a bit beefed-up to say the least...

There's already a thread on this movie.
