This leaves me a little cold. C20th warfare is more about the ground. The micro-terrain matters and cannot be reduced to a hexagon.

The first few minutes of this slide show show Kustrin a couple of years ago.

Ignore the clutch of military historians. Smartie pants brownie points if you can identify the military historians. Hint one of them is Manstein;s biographer. The man that isn't there is Christopher Duffy around whose books the itinerary was designed. he was ill and couldn't come along.

Turn One: German Moves 21 Panzer Division Panther Enters B 5 From West towards Russian Occupied Fort Board 1. Panther Immobilized by 45L Gun Near Bridge. German Infantry Support in Halftracks then enter B 5 From West using different Entry Hex. German Player surmises that the Panther was fired on by more that one Gun, Russian Guns Setup in Concealment Terrain are shown to indicate Play, during actual play these Guns would setup Hidden Initial Placement. German Player decides to use Button Up Halftracks to use Vehicle Bypass Freeze vs Likely Russian Gun Positions in Woods Hexes , according to the Russian Player To Hit #
and Hit Location Defensive Fire actions. to approximate a Hidden Gun Position. By Rule a Vehicle/AFV using Bypass Freeze prevents an Opposing Unit from Firing outside of that Hex. A Hidden Gun in such a Hex, can Defensive Fire vs Vehicle/AFV using Bypass IF the BYPASS Hex side is Withing the GUN Covered ARC, this means that in the depictions the Guns would have to Change CA to Fire on the Halftrack. Such a Hit would be considered a Side Hit vs Vehicle /AFV, . A Front or Rear Hit would have to be Traced to a Front or Rear Vertex Hex Point, or if the Bypass Vehicle Crosses the Guns CA During Bypass.

Turn One German Moves: NKKK/National Socialist Motorized Corp Enters From North Board 1/Russian Unit at Level 2 Defensive First Fire vs NSSK using Panther Armored Assault. NSSK Platoon breaks ends Turn One in Position Shown. Russian Units at Level One in the Fort LOS must be checked to see that no intervening Level One Buildings that would obstruct such LOS By Rule that state Level One Location cannot see OVER a Level one Building. Level Two Location can See Over a Level One Building. Line of Sight that crosses a Level One Building cannot see or Fire into the Hex directly next to such a Building/providing a blind Hex. The North Side of the Fort appears to be Unguarded at this time however
