What's the march name in the beginning ”Cross Of Iron”?

The beginning of "Cross of Iron" is composed of "Hanschen klein" and march, but i can't find that march name.
I found the song which has same music in Youtube, but I think it is sung by russian.(Because it is maybe ROA's song.)

Anyone know the name of this march?
Is it a so famous song in Western that Sam Peckinpah used that?

thanks.

Hello and :welcome:

There was already a thread dealing with this soundtrack: https://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic ... 24&t=93986 ...however, there's no answer to your question there. I myself was looking for the name of that march for years (being a huge fan of the movie), but without luck.

Cheers,
Ivan

The credits for the music are Ernest Gold - an Austrian Jewish refugee who became an American. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernest_Gold_(composer)

It was probably composed by him in the style of a German military march. Post WW2 film scores included German marches composed specially for the film. Some of the best were written by Jewish composers like Gold, whose proximity to the culture may enabled them to capture the naunces of the era. E.g.the best known "Hitler Youth" tune ever written....
composed by John Kander and Fred Ebb

There may have been a desire to avoid using explicitly Nazi tunes to avoid the music becoming a focus of new Nazi support or to avoid paying Nazi composers any royalties for the use of their music. e.g. According Adolf Galland, the actual song of the summer of 1940 was Bomben auf England by Norbert Schultz played through loudspeakers in public places and on the radio.
Here is how the Battle of Britian could have been scored.

But this version captures some of the bombastic flavour of Nazi music and is probably a better tune.

And the original tune is still used as a call to arms for the extreme right.

Please let's stay on topic, which is: What is the title (and the origin) of the melody mixing with "Hänschen klein" in the "Cross of Iron" movie, the same tune that was used for the ROA song "Мы идём". (Мы идём широкими полями...)

The ROA song actually seems to be the origin of the melody; according to this site http://www.russkije.lv/ru/journalism/re ... ov-flaume/, the composer is М. Давыдов. However, I don't know how accurate is info from the site. Also, I've seen people (incorrectly) linking the melody of "Мы идём" to the Soviet "Песни о Родине", although the melodies are quite different. This doesn't mean that the ROA song's melody wasn't based on some other Soviet tune. (But, in this case, which one?)

The conclusion (so far) is that the "Cross of Iron" intro was composed of two songs: German "Hänschen klein" and (right-wing) Russian "Мы идём". If anyone has any different info on the origin of the Russian melody, do let us know.

Cheers,
Ivan

For me, this is just a faster variation of the Horst-Wessel-Lied. Note that it is also played in the background when Stransky declares to Steiner that he was never a party member and wants to be seen as a Prussian aristocrat.
Er ist wieder da. Aber auch dieses Mal wird er nicht siegen!

It's NOT the Horst-Wessel-Lied melody, no matter in what tempo you play it.
