This is sad news, because this was one of the first European films that I watched regarding both the Eastern Front and the Wehrmacht, I saw this movie before I saw Cross of Iron

I've not seen any of his other films.

Good day Dan,

Thank you for remembering Joseph "Sepp" Vilsmaier.
His cinematic work is very well known here in Germany and is highly appreciated, and rightly so.
His film "Stalingrad" from the year 1993 is worth seeing, but not necessarily one of my personal favourites about this difficult topic.

Joseph Vilsmaier (1939 - 2020) https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Vilsmaier

This is of course only my personal opinion, as always.

I like to share a documentary from the BR (Bayerischer Rundfunk) about the movie:

May he rest in peace

P.S. You will like to read the comment of Martin Pfeil on YT, worth reading it.

Kind of late, but RIP. I haven't seen the movie in ages.
