Don't know the title of that marching song, but the song that the SS men and Schindler sing in the restaurant scene is the popular German folklore song "Wem Gott will rechte Gunst erweisen" also known as "Der frohe Wandersmann"; see here for the lyrics:

That song the German soldiers were singing after the restauarnt scene was "Erika". A popular German love song. Ofcourse they sang it in a more militant fasion.

Yes, you're right! I just looked up the lyrics and watched the scene again, and it is this song indeed. (Shame on me for not knowing our folk songs, or apparently at least not as good as a fellow member from halfway around the world! )

Oh, and here are those lyrics:

Allow me to answer: The lyrics are the same as those found at the link I posted above. (It is really just the way they sing it - in terms of volume, rhythm etc. - that makes it sound "militant".)

Ok, my mistake. It's because Iremember to have seen Spanish subtitles for hat song on the Spanish version, which certainly have racist words against Jews, nothing to do with the original Eria, which as it has been said was a lovesong. I'll check the film with the lyrics this time.

By the way, have you got any idea about where I could get "Wem Gott will rechte Gunst erweisen"?. I cannot find it!

Thank you

Weird. Seems they wanted to put meaning where they was none in the original...

I don't know about possibilities for downloading it, but a quick search for the songs title on Amazon.de yielded a few results for CDs containing the song in different interpretations, like these:

Name that song - Schindlers list

Post by Panzerpaul » 16 Nov 2004 10:03

Can anybody help with the song being sung by the german soldiers marching early on in the film Schindlers list

The marching column of soldiers near the beginning of the film are singing a marching song but I would like to know its name in order to get a copy.It is the section being sung in the background as the soldiers march and the camera then pans to soldiers that cut the jewish mans hair.
