The Jewish twins Adam and Ida Paluch are three years old when they are separated from each other by the Nazis in 1943 in the Jewish ghetto of the then Silesian city of Sosnowiec. Her mother takes her own life out of desperation.

Adam is sent to the Majdanek concentration camp, Ida can hide. Both survive the Holocaust and are taken in by Polish foster families after the end of the war. Only after 53 years do they find each other again. But is it a happy ending...
