If your question is about the SS-Haupsturmführer Erik Dorf whoi was the asistent of Heydrich, the only people that can tell about him is the novelist Gerald Green, because this SS Officer is not real, is just a ficticious bad guy to the novel "Holocaust".

All the best,

Escape From Sobibor / Holocaust Miniseries

Post by gokyu » 20 Jul 2003 17:57

I heard about this movie a few months ago - I think it came out back in the early to mid 80's starring Rutger Hauer.

I've checked Blockbuster, but they don't carry it for rental.

I've also heard about the Holocaust miniseires that aired on TV back in 1978 - does anyone know where I might find it, preferably on DVD, but I suppose VHS would be ok too...

Thanks!

-Bryan

Interlibrary Loan

Post by RACPISA » 20 Jul 2003 20:12

What I do when I want a movie and my local Blockbuster doesn't carry it is I go to my local libary and do an Interlibrary Loan. My library joined up with about 30 other libraries across the county, so there will be at least one branch with whatever I'm looking for. So I would check that out.

According to Amazon.com, the miniseries "Holocaust" hasn't yet been released on DVD. It is around on VHS tape, however. Amazon says it is "out of stock" on the tapes, but independent sellers are offering it for sale through the amazon.com site. (Way too pricy - $55-$145 - I hope you can find it in a video store.)

As for "Escape from Sobibor", Amazon.com indicates that it is available on both VHS and DVD (for much cheaper - $7.99), but they have a disclaimer on the site stating that sometimes the titles go out of stock and that they'd let the buyer know if this was the case, after they receive the order.

Go to http://www.amazon.com/ and search under VHS and DVD.

I got them both at Wall Mart on VHS in the low cost bin.....I think "Escape from Sobibor was $4.99 and Holocaust was about 10 bucks......the Holocaust tape I have is in SLP and the whole miniseries is on one tape 600 minutes. I don't think either is available on DVD......if so, I haven't seen it.

Karl Dorf was in fact a real person and worked for and with Heydrich. If you read the holocaust book written by Rudi Weiss who was the only survivor of his family apart from his sister in law and his brothers son whose name was Josef after his grandfather and
his brothers wife who survived Theaisenstat (not spelt correctly) concentration camp. She emigrated to the UK or the USA I can't remember which offhand. Anyways if you read the book by Rudi it gives you in relative order the timeline from the beginning to the end of the war and gives you the story from the Weiss's side and from Eric Dorf's diary which was loaned to Rudi by Dorf's uncle Kurt who was given the 'Rightous one' title by the Israeli government for saving Jewish people from the Nazi's.The book is a great read if you enjoy accurate history at this truely awful time in during the twentieth century.
