Roman Polanski's The Pianist
Roman Polanski's The Pianist
The film just won the Golden Palm at Cannes. It tells the story of the holocaust through the eyes of Wladyslaw Szpilman, a Polish pianist. Anyone here seen? Is it any better than the Hollywood stuff?
This is good news. I had had very high hopes that Polanski's treatment would match the excellence of the book. Apparently somebody thought so, (even if it was in Cannes) and now I really can't wait for its release.
On another note, Sidney Lumet apparently completed filming Andrej Szczypoirski's haunting novel, "THE BEAUTIFUL MRS. SEIDENMANN" in Germany. This is another excellent piece of literature that shows deeds and actions by disparate people, even in horrible situations, in shades of gray, and not just black and white. Unfortunately, I have heard nothing about a release.
Lumet is also apparently working on the filming the third novel in James Jones' trilogy, the powerful and bottom line "WHISTLE," but have heard nothing about it going into production.
