I do believe though that the propaganda in this war with iraq is a lot better and has more truth behind it then showing the russians as monsters that would rape the women, to the people of germany. My opnion...

I wasn't really thinking of the propaganda of the US in the middle East, but rather the swift shift into offensive.

i think the most amazing thing about the movie was the mass scene in the end where thousands of bugs want to take over the small base :)
edit : they are making SST 3rd person shooter http://strangelite.co.uk/ :)

Wow. Those graphics actually look great.

I hope we get dropped out from those "Roger Young" ships.

Starship Troopers is a good example of hybrid moviemaking, Davis tells us. We had a lot of miniatures, a lot of really spectacular CGI from Phil Tippet's studio for the bugs. We had prosthetics and they had all the physical effects artists in that movie.

Can't believe this movie is 25 years old. A classic, well ahead of its time and Denise Richards has aged beautifully like a fine wine. Still pretty hot for 52.

Paul Verhoeven's movies seem to be more well thought of today than at the time of release. A true visionary director.

Avoid the TV movie sequels though. Poor stuff.

I read SSTs in 1966. I was at the movies later on and saw a wave of Bugs coming at the camera. "Whoopee! It's Heinlein!!!" I was so, so very, wrong.

I know the film and I really admire Paul Verhoeven for his radical films.

Some of his early works are classified as pornographic, I'm happy to agree, they were good, sometimes nasty, and socially critical films.

His films about the Second World War are often disturbing without wanting to point out some explicit scenes.

"Starship Troopers" is such a typical what would be called a "bubble" today, I'm not into that bubble.

A good man, he was always teased, but definitely one of the few big fish, who always went against the tide...
Actually a documentary filmmaker, who filmed his crude experiences and memories, which one of us could do that ?

You know Verhoeven's early films, probably not..?

A fellatio scene, the rape of a gay man, etc.
That was Paul Verhoeven, before the Troopers movie...

These films are guaranteed never to be broadcast in the US, presumably for legal reasons.
European film is more liberal, we love it dirty, up close, not always, but sometimes... 8-)

His films are works of art, no one is entitled to a moral judgement, period.

It's like Fassbinder, what you experienced yourself, you capture that on a piece of film, for a long time, heritage...

In the USA, it's better to shoot more than 20.000 people dead every year, that's not pornographic, just deadly, a simple calculation, thanks to the NRA, against planet over-population, well done!
