This should be easier ... a real classic.

Huh? Nope. That would be a little too early ...

The same scene a little later ...

Close, but still a miss. I beg your pardon, I would never call a racist charade like "Birth of a Nation" a masterpiece!

Thanks askropp,
I am well aware about the problems with the movie, only yesterday evening the film was a topic in a detailed documentary about the KKK, on the channel Arte.
Another shot in the blue...
John Ford - Cavalry Trilogy, but which part..?
Audie Murphy - The Red Badge of Courage...

Re: Game: guess from which war/historical movie is the picture?
Hmm, I'm not sure if it is allowed to post several guesses in a single post, but this is in fact Audie Murphy single-handedly attacking a whole Confederate battle line in "Red Badge of Courage". Maybe the baby-faced warrior had already done something similar in 1944 ...

Thank you askropp,
who is sure about anything at all in such times, I saw the film a few times as a very young boy in a cinema in the neighborhood in the village cinema, and some scenes remained in the memory...
And you never know, what this was good for.
Okay, next riddle: A man is hiding under a kind of lid...

Okay, just another note...
The main character/actor was born in the year 1906, and passed away in the year 2008,
to the personal regret of many fans and friends...

Re: Game: guess from which war/historical movie is the picture?
More info...
The actor survived the allied sinking of a german ship, at the end of the WWII, and in one of his most important films,
an axe played a not unimportant role, the movie was on a special "index" for long years...

Re: Game: guess from which war/historical movie is the picture?
Last note for today (My personal sandman is knocking on the door...)
The movie, we are riddling about, was released in the year 1963, not a war movie at all, more of a bittersweet comedy,
with a former war in the background.
And there was little to laugh about, in the home country of the leading actor, in these years...
