Not Michael Caine.
Don't throw in the towel. Shakespeare would be appalled.
France won 2-1 earlier . I wonder who got to keep the ball? Maybe Hitler could do with putting it on display.
Another few breadcrumbs to digest...

Re: Game: guess from which war/historical movie is the picture?
Let's recap:
* Cinema release from the 1970s
* British movie, a low budget production
* The leading star only made this single movie but is more famous for his TV work.
* Well known supporting cast. Lots of familiar names.
* Written by a famous playwright.
* Set in Occupied France in 1940.
* A man openly walking around dressed as a woman.
* A discreet reference to Shakespeare.
* A joke about Hitler and balls.
* Obviously some comedy or light hearted production rather than serious drama.
Here's another few clues. Then I will post another photo from the same movie tomorrow.
Clue 1 - There's a well known WW2 song right at the end of the movie in the final scene. And it's not Lili Marleen either. You will definitely have heard it before. Famous song.
Clue 2 - Hans mentioned Michael Caine. Best known for his role in "The Eagle Has Landed" where he parachutes into England masquerading as someone else in enemy uniform.
This movie is kind of the reverse. Our hero (the one dressed in woman's clothes) is parachuted back into Occupied Europe at a later date to fool the Germans. Masquerading as someone else.
Clue 3 - Although it's set during WW2, I think there's actually only a couple of minutes of actual fighting when our hero is escaping and returning fire to the pursuing Germans.
Clue 4 - The last scene is hilarious. It starts off completely serious and then descends into absolute farce, typical of so many British comedy movies from the 1970s period.
So, 24 hours to guess and then I will post a couple of photos from the movie which should almost give it away.
So get your thinking hats on. All the clues are there. Yes it's a reasonably obscure movie but still enough into to search and find the answer without too much detective work.

Re: Game: guess from which war/historical movie is the picture?
Yes indeed. Bravo. Well done.
Starring the wonderful Danny La Rue who is a drag artist entertainer left behind when the British head for Dunkirk. He has to use his many talents (dressed as a female) in order to escape back to England.

Now watch this without laughing. It's the final scene.

The look on Alfred Marks' face when he realises what is going on.
Altogether now: "Hitler has only got one ball, Goering has two but very small. Himmler has something similar. But poor old Goebbels has no balls at all"
We got there in the end. Finally...

Hi von thoma,
was it the German actor Herr Joachim Fuchsberger ?
Unfortunately, I don't recognize the blonde maid, was she a Swede or even a Norwegian in the production at the time, in any case an absolute beauty, WOW!
Hans
P.S. @ VanillaNuns, great puzzle, a really hard nut to crack!

RE: Antje Geerk
I'd never heard of her before but very beautiful and elegant in the same way that Grace Kelly was.
She is still alive too. Born in 1938.

Re: Game: guess from which war/historical movie is the picture?
1917 would be too obvious although the year is correct…
