The Blue Max (1966) soundtrack

[Topic entitled "BLUE MAX movie - what song?" renamed by the music section host, Ivan Ž.]

Does anyone know the origin or name of the song the pilots are singing as Stachel (George Peppard) is taken to the officer's quarters? My VHS copy is not the best in the world, but I can make out some of the words "There was a town in Poland/ and there a maid we found/ lovely was she/ etc. etc"

It's a pretty good tune for a drinking song, but alas I haven't been able to locate anything like it- perhaps it was 'made up' for the movie?

Any help is greatly appreciated--

It seems to be an English translation of "In einem Polenstädtchen"
