I think Cillian Murphy (who impressed me in 28 Days Later and Batman Begins) has that "Aryan" reptile look and would be well suited to playing a pervy Gestapo officer (like Toht in Raiders) or Dr. Mengele.

Cillian Murphy is creepy. I could definitely see him as some Gestapo interrogator or something similar.

And like any SS doctor, Murphy's character (Dr. Jonathan Crane) abused and experimented on his helpless "patients". And yes, he does have that pervy look associated with any Gestapo or SD agent.

Hello Big Orange,

Isn't your second statement above a bit prejudicial, to say the least, and inaccurate on the face of it? It is the equivalent of saying all ________ are ugly, stupid, and/or any other negative comment one cares to make about a particular group. 8O For accuracy, here is a photo of the intelligent young Dr. Josef Mengele, Ph.D, M.D. in the late 1930's in Frankfurt.

Personally, I think actor Daniel Day-Lewis, "Last of the Mohican's," would be a better choice to play Dr. Mengele.

Cheers,

Walter

P.S. Below is Daniel Day-Lewis from, "The Boxer".

P.P.S. Here is a webpage on Dr. Mengele, a summary of his life with photos from various periods of his life, most of them post-WWII.

I see that earlier on in the thread, several members made reference to Ian McKellan and that he would make a good Nazi. Here is a publicity photograph taken from when he played Hitler in the 1989 drama "COUNTDOWN TO WAR" - the resemblance is remarkable I think.

Will the real Adolf Hitler please stand up

O.K Potsdamerplatz,

Here is the real Fuhrer, Adolf Hitler, standing up in Nuremberg.

Cheers,

Walter

P.S. Here is another of the friendly Fuhrer greeting his enthusiastic followers.

The Fuhrer (below), contemplating world conquest perhaps, while relaxing at Berchtesgaden.

I don't think Cillian Murphy looks particularly like Mengele, but I don't think Day-Lewis does either, although both are good actors.

Nice picture of AH though.

Getting back to the topic at hand, I believe the distinguished and talented English actor, Alan Rickman, could give a very convincing performance as a National Socialist German Worker's Party S.S. member, Gestapo member, and general all around bad guy Nazi interrogator type. Just listen to that voice! 8O :D

I think Anton Differing, Karl Otto Alberty and The actor who played the SS officer in Where Eagles Dare are classic examples

I think the best choice actor for playing SS Dr. Mengele would either be Noah Taylor (Max, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), Tim Roth (Reservoir Dogs, Planet of the Apes) and Stephen Rea (The Butcher Boy, V for Vendetta).

The only problem is that Dr. Mengele was much better looking than those three actors, by far, in my opinion. :D Alas, Clark Gable is no longer with us; he would have been an actor with the appearance, poise, stage presence and class to portrray Dr. Mengele correctly. :)

The third actor you are referring to here is Derren Nesbitt. He played the sinister Gestapo officer, Major von Hapen, in "WHERE EAGLES DARE" and I agree he was a great choice for the role. Unfortunately his movie career stalled in the years to come which is a shame as Nesbitt had the potential to be a big star (always playing a villain of course)

Best regards,

David

Colonel, I don't have to remind you, that I am in charge of all the Gestapo activities in this area... and if there are foreign agents then I am to be informed at once!

Laurence Fox is similar to Heydrich ( of course only by face ). Photo and info of Fox on: http://www.rada.org/grad01/fox.html
PS: He is also nephew of Edward Fox.

Peter Stormare will be perfect Julius Schaub ( chief adjutant of Hitler, his close friend and obergruppenführer SS ), I think. Stormare played Ernst Röhm in TV movie Hitler: Rise of Evil.
