Oberst Karl Jent
Oberst Karl Jent
Hi,
I'm hoping someone could clear up the matter of Karl Jent's promotion to Generalmajor. The Schematismus der generale und obersten der K.U.K. Armee 1918 shows him as Oberst, similarly, he doesn't appear in Schmidt-Brentano's Die k. k. bzw. k. u. k. Generalität 1816-1918, but if I understand the info in this link, it states that he was promoted to GM in May 1917 whilst a POW of the Russians. Have I misunderstood something?

Re: Oberst Karl Jent
VJK,
All the books that I have indicated that Karl Jent finished the war as an Oberst. It is very likely he entered the Bundesheeres in 1919/1920 and he was subsequently promoted to Generalmajor.
Regards,
Ian

Re: Oberst Karl Jent
Thanks for confirming my suspicions Ian. I think it is probably more likely that given his period of incarceration as a Russian POW, he returned home as an invalid, did not become a member of the Bundesheer, but received a Titular promotion to Generalmajor within the short period before his death. Here is what I have I have for him, any additional info would be most welcome.

Re: Oberst Karl Jent
Some basic life dates
Karl Jent
* 12.11.1863 in Olmütz/Mähren
† 14.10.1921 in Freistadt/Oberösterreich
verh. am 07.05.1895 mit Viktoria, geb. [?]
The reason behind his not being a member of the Bundesheer is apparently his major health problem: he suffered from the debilitating form of neurosyphilis called "paralytic dementia" and died bedridden.

Hi Ian,
I haven't worked out how to attach pics to PMs, therefore I am posting here 3 pics of FML Theodor Riter von Soretic. Source: http://www.kulturpool.at
I haven't been able to find any pics of Georg Komma, unfortunately.
Kind regards,
Valdis

Re: Oberst Karl Jent
Valdis,
Thanks. I can rule Soretic out as the FML I am looking for. I now need to find a picture of Georg Komma.

Re: Oberst Karl Jent
I have read again the complete newspaper strip an there we can learn that Jent was promoted to Generalmajor while he was in russian capture in Mai 1917. I am not sure about this but will try to prove.VJK wrote:Thanks for confirming my suspicions Ian. Therefore no Bundesheer/Republik promotion.

Re: Oberst Karl Jent
I could find out now that there was held an open slot "mit Vorbehalt des Ranges" for Jent during the may promotions in 1917 as you can see on the pics below. In my opinion this promotion became automatically effective when returned from Russia.
Source is evident on the pics.
