Associate professor for criminal law and criminal litigation (Allgemeines und Militärstrafrecht und Strafprozeß) at the University of Vienna until 1938, then removed from office and expelled. He was able to flee to London from the Nazis in 1939. He returned to Austria in 1946 and took part in the reconstruction of the Austrian judiciary.

First Lieutenant Geniere Regiment No. 2;
At the beginning of the First World War he was already a retired major general,
but volunteered and was promptly the first Austro-Hungarian general to be taken prisoner of war.

The pic is of low quality. But I would recognize a republican cockade on the hat and rank rosettes for military officials on his collar (rank of "....offizial"). Are you sure that´s the corresponding picture to your question?

Paulus sent me the complete pic as private message. After discussing the pic with a friend we agree that it was taken after 1918 and shows a non military person, e.g. a member of a "Stadtpolizei". This would explain the rosettes, the short sabre and the cockade.

I'm sorry for the confusion.
@ Christian: Thanks for the clarification.

The general we are looking for died in 1915 as a prisoner of war.

Thanks Paulus.

My input to the thread is a Feldmarschalleutnant who was promoted in 1918. Born in 1858 and promoted to Generlmajor in 1915.
