Campaigns of Austria-Hungary, books
Can someone recommend me any good histories of any of the campaigns fought by the k.u.k. during the Great War, in English.
Not fussy on which particular campaign just a good solid military history with Austria-Hungary as its focus.
Cheers.

Re: Campaigns of Austria-Hungary, books
May I suggest John R. Schindler's "Isonzo: The Forgotten Sacrifice of the Great War," which is an excellent account of Battles of the Isonzo. A nice companion piece is Mark Thompson's "The White War," which looks at the Italian Front from the Italian perspective.
Timothy Dowling's "The Brusilov Offensive" provides a good overview of the near-destruction of AH forces in the east. For a topic that is as fascinating as it is obscure, I can also recommend Paul Halpern's "The Battle of the Otranto Straights."

Thanks for those suggestions Old Prohaska, I shall follow them up.
There really does not seem to be all that much about Austria-Hungary in the Great War, in English. I am sure there are far more books concerning Austria in the Napoleonic wars.

'Siberian Prison' by Ernst v Enzmann is available on e-book for a very reasonable price.

Re: Campaigns of Austria-Hungary, books
Other books in my library ( but very out of date ) include:
" Captured " by Ferdinand H.Horvath.
" With the Austrian Army in Galicia " by Octavian Tasleanu
" 4 Weeks in the Trenches " by Fritz Kreisler ( the famed musician ).
These are all about the Eastern Front in WW1. Perhaps you can order them from a library. They were really good.

Re: Campaigns of Austria-Hungary, books
Two excellent books are Geoffrey Wawro's A Mad Catastrophe, which is now available, and Collision of Empires: The First World War in the East, 1914 by Pritt Buttar.
Wawro concentrates almost exclusively on Austria-Hungary. He shows how the Habsburg Empire was in a state of advanced decay well before WWI started. He is highly critical of the Austrian High Command, in particular General Conrad von Hotzendorf. I found it to be a very interesting and enjoyable book. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the conduct of WWI from An AH perspective.
Buttar's Collision of Empires focuses on the opening months of the war in the east. He discusses the quicker than anticipated Russian mobilization and how that messed up the plans of both Germany and Austria-Hungary and resulted in some of the most significant battles of the early stages of the war. Because the three empires involved did not survive the war the eastern front is often eclipsed, especially in the US, by campaigns in the west. Buttar provides an excellent history of the early months of WWI in the east.
