OPINIONS ON Austria/Hungarian BUCKLE
OPINIONS ON Austria/Hungarian BUCKLE
Hello,
I am interested in WW1 belt buckles and recently came across this example. As I have no experience with WW1 era buckles I am hoping that someone will be able to tell me if this one is original to the period and any other information relating to it.
Best regards as ever
Tony

Re: OPINIONS ON Austria/Hungarian BUCKLE
Many thanks Ian, much appreciated. I also have a similar buckle with a removable eagle crest on the front. Do you know if that type Is an officer issue ?

Tony

Here is my other buckle, which has a removable front piece. Would this be an officer issue ?
Any help or comments would be gratefully received.

Re: OPINIONS ON Austria/Hungarian BUCKLE
Hi Tony,
Another good example of an Austro-Hungarian enlisted buckle. Officers buckles were completely different. I have a book describing the various buckles and I will dig it out today and post additional comments regarding this type.

Ian

Re: OPINIONS ON Austria/Hungarian BUCKLE
The two buckles you have posted are both types from the era of Franz Josef.
The Solid pressed type was standard issue.
The one with the detachable coat of arms is probably a private purchase piece utilised by One Year Volunteers and those that could afford to 'upgrade'.
