Hi all,

Can anyone put a name to this Linienschiffskapitän and perhaps provide some biographical information?

I guess the cross in his neck is a Commander's Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit. According these the photo taken after the WWI, and he is an officer of the Royal Hungarian Riverine Forces.

Coud you show a bigger pic of his medals? I have a guess.

I have tried to get a better picture of the medals, but alas no luck. The first 2 appear to be an LO-R (not certain) and an EKO-3
Do you think it is Vezérfökapitány Richard Dietrich?

I don't think. Dietrich's highest WWI medal was a MVK 3 (with bar).

Yes, I think you are correct. In which case we can rule him out. I have maybe found another possible candidate Emil Konek Edler von Norwall, he was awarded an EKO-R3. What do you think? NJo photo to compare the two against one another unfortunately.

As I said before the medals are blurred when enlarged on the photo I have, but it is possible that the first medal is not the LO-R, but could be a Hungarian medal? Unfortunately, I don't have any reference material on the Horthy era medals and awards.

Konek became Rear Admiral in 1921 (Titel und Charakter), I think this photo was made later.

I have no photo of Konek, but I find a newsreel, he is the speaker.

Meanwhile a specialist friend confirmed, that the medal in his neck is a a Commander's Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit.

Thank you for adding the newsreel and I am confident we can rule out Konek. I agree that the photo of my mystery man was taken later than 1921 as you suggest in your post. The search continues.

My guess would be Tasnády (Taschler until 1922) Guido, but he had no LO just EKO 3 :(

Another note: over the EK II is a foreign (Turkish?) medal.

I will follow up on Tasnády (Taschler until 1922) Guido and see where that leads me. I am more and more certain that the first award is not the LO-R, but then again I have no idea what it could be..a clearer picture would be of immense help, but alas it is not to be.

Ah! I was wondering what the other award was...I think you might be correct on it being Turkish.

I have been able to determine that Bruno Dittrich was awarded the following:

Order of the Iron Crown -3 class with war decoration and swords
Military Service Cross - 3 class with war decoration ans swords Silver Signum Laudis with war decoration and swords Medal Karl Troop Cross
Mobilisation Cross 1913
Jubilee Medal 1898 Jubilee Cross 1908
Prussian Crown Order 3rd Class Prussian Iron Cross 1st Class and 2nd class
Ottoman Medschidie Order 3 class and 4 class
Romanian Jubilee Medal
Hungarian Order of Merit 1931

However, I am not sure what the first award is he is wearing. The photo is to blurred to make it out. Any information welcome
