Feldmarschalleutnant & Feldzeugmeister

Post by Marcus » 18 Jan 2004 16:35

I'm looking for info on the ranks of Feldmarschalleutnant & Feldzeugmeister in the Austrian army, were they normal ranks or were they ranks given to those who held a certain position?

Hi Marcus,

They are both normal ranks, Feldmarschalleutnant is the equivalent to German Generalleutnant (Lieutenant General), Feldzeugmeister is the equivalent of a General der Artillerie. They are just Austrian terminology.

Best Regards!

Feldzeugmeister

Hi Marcus,

Orok is correct. prior to 1908 all Austro-Hungarian full generals with the exceptions of General der Kavallerie were titled Feldzeugmeister. In 1908 with the introduction of the rank of General der Infanterie only the generals originating in the artillery and pioneer branches of the service retained this historic title.

Glenn
