I feel it deserves a clue:

He was promoted to Titular-Generalmajor by the republic after his retirement in 1924.

Hi Christian,

I think we are going to need a a little more info - I counted at least 20 possible candidates up to the letter "L".

Kind regards,

Valdis

He was commander of 37. Inf.Brig. in 1918.

Why do you think he is one of the "L"-generals?

I think Valdis means he could be an “L” to “Z” as he was not one of the “A” to “K”. Still searching...

There were only two Commander of the 37. Inf. Brig in 1918: one being Oberst Franz Schöbl (MMThO) (XI -1917 – VI 1918) and the other was Generalmajor Rudolf Lunzer Edler von Lindhausen (VI – XI 1918).
The picture is not of Franz Schöbl. Therefore, it must/should be Rudolf Lunzer von Lindhausen. However, as he was already a Generalmajor with a seniority of 28 Feb 1918, therefore it can’t be him either, as you have stated our mystery man was promoted Titular Generalmajor, by the Republic, after his retirement in 1924.
No answer, just more questions. I await with interest the answer.

Dear Ian,

we have the Problem that there were two Lunzers, Heinrich and Rudolf. So we both are right and I have to stand corrected:

Your are right that the commander of 37. Inf.Brig. was already Generalmajor in 1918. This was Rudolf.

And my Heinrich was promoted to Generalmajor on 18.01.1924.

My records did not realize that Rudolf and not Heinrich was commander of 37. Inf.Brig.

Rudolf was just Interimskommandant of FJB 9.

Thank you for your correction.

Does the answer not qualify Ian/kaisertreu as the next to post a quiz person/question?

New clue as it seems needed. He was an army man and a navy man too. His rank would be the highest - in his branch of “arms”.
