ID Austro-Hungarian Uniform

Post by Orok » 15 May 2004 13:06

Dear all,

I would like to know what uniform this man is wearing and particularly what is the collar rank insignia. It looks like Austro-Hungarian military student-cadet insignia but there are too many laces here! 8) And this is cropped from a larger wedding picture showing his bride with him. I don't suppose military cadets were allowed to get married?

Any help will be much appreciated!

Best Regards!

maybe someone can help you with explanations on the ribbons of the medals. The rightest medal (the jubilee cross) was issued for military persons with a different ribbon than for officials. i can´t remember, if the military got the white with the red strip or the red without strip. if somebody else remembers, than we know at least if this is a soldier or an officer of some uniformed administration. (tax, post office, some gouvernment offices etc.)

The first two medals look to me like the Verdienstkreuz, the last one is no doubt the Jubiläums-Kreuze 1908 for military personel (for civilians the ribbon would be solid red). Can't make out the third medal.

I too suspect that this guy's from some uniformed civilian government branches. But which one?

Best Regards!

Orok,

I am told that he is a senior NCO of the Gendarmerie in the period 1918-1920.

Glenn

Wachtmeister

Post by Glenn2438 » 17 Jun 2004 18:58

Hi Orok,

a Wachtmeister. The insignia was apparently used at the same time as the Volkswehr was using sleeve stripe insignia.

Regards
Glenn
