Glenn,
I have read the excellent biography of Rudolf Ritter Metz von Spondalunga on your superb website here:
Rudolf Ritter Metz von Spondalunga
This biography states that Metz "was awarded the Order of the Iron Crown 3rd Class with War Decoration on the 15th of November 1915" for his actions during the Gorlice-Tarnów Offensive.
However, I have read from the Verordnungsblatt für das k. u. k. Heer Nr. 89 reprinted in the July 3, 1915 edition of the Budapest newspaper Pester Lloyd that Metz was awarded the Order of Iron Crown 2nd Class with War Decoration (see the clip below), this award is not mentioned in the above article in your website.
I just wonder if Metz indeed got the 2nd class!
And also, do you have any information on this Oberst of Generalstabskorps Adam Nowotny?
Best Regards!

Hi Orok,
Metz most certainly had the EKO-2 as can be seen on his post war photo. I just checked the Ehrenbuch der Österreichisch-Ungarischen Wehrmacht and it confirms the:
EKO-3 published in PVLB 85/14 - 15 Nov 1914 so typo on my part
EKO-2 published in PVLB 88/15.
Adam Nowotny was promoted to Generalmajor on the 11th of November 1915. His final appointment was General-Traininspektor. A former artillery officer, he had commanded Feldhaubitz-Regiment Nr. 11 as an Oberstleutnant from June 1911-April 1912. Promoted to Oberst on the 8th of August 1912 he was the chief of the 3rd Department of the War Ministry in 1914.
Regards
Glenn
