Julius Ringel

Post by Peter H » 14 Aug 2004 04:05

I'm after details of Ringel's WW1 service in the K.u.k.Ringel later commanded the 5th Mountain Division, and had a Corps command in WW2.

I assume his performance as an officer in 1914-18 helped in his advancement.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards,
Peter

Hi Peter!

In May 1915, at the oputbreak of war with Italy, Julius Ringel as Oberleutnant (first lieutenant) in the 27th k.k. Landwehr-Infanterie-Regiment from Laibach (Ljubljana), which was predominantly a Slovenian unit. To be more precisely here, he was an officer in the IX. Marschbatallion of the 27th k.k. Landwehr-Infanterie-Regiment, which was parts of Oberst Staufer's 58th Gebirgs-Brigade of the 93rd Infantry Division (FLM Von Boog) and was stationed on Mengore Hill near Tolmin (Tolmein). One of the veterans of IX/LIR 27 remembers one particular Leutnant RINGEL in his battalion and describes him as a bit "cuckoo"... He described in his memoires a particular reaction of this Leutnant Ringel when the news was spread that Italy declared war to Austro-Hungary. He apparently took it very personally... hehehe
