Dear friends,
Can some one tell me where does OKALOW, in Galicia (east of Europe, not north of Spain ) lies exactly TODAY?
It was a territory of the Austrian-Hungarian empire in the 19th century. Galicia falls partly in south Poland and partly in west Ukraine, but I haven't been able to situate Okalow (caveat: not Okalew) with precision. Some help?
Thanks in advance,
Violeta

Polskifone,
First of all, thanks very much for your interest. Here is where I take it: http://www.galiziengermandescendants.or ... les/gp.htm
As you can see, there appears also an "Okalew" and an "Okladow". But "mine" is OKALOW.
Thanks again.
Kind regards,
Violeta

OK, I give up. Nothing at all. All I can suggest is that some of the place names are not the Polish spellings... possibly Germanisations copied verbatim from a list. My guess is that, given so many of the family details are around the Lublin area, Okalew and Okalow are one and the same place.
http://www.galiziengermandescendants.org seems to be the ONLY place Okalow exists as a place name. There is nothing for it's probable Polish spelling Okalów
Sorry, maybe someone else will have better luck. Best regards.
Edit... just when I had given up...(and don't ask me what the following means)...

http://teki.bkpan.poznan.pl/search.php? ... 15&page=13 It seems to be a record from 1609 mentioning a small village near Kalisz called Okalow... but I think this is too obscure to be the place you're after.277 (Nr. 1) 1609
